Our PhD program in Art History and Visual Studies enables students to pursue specialized research in their chosen field. We cover diverse research areas, with particular expertise in: medieval Italian art, Renaissance art from Italy and Northern Europe, the evolution of print culture during the Renaissance, architectural history, intersections between art and science, 18th-19th century British art, Romanticism and its interpretations, avant-garde theories and history, sexuality in art, modernist and post-colonial perspectives, psychoanalytic approaches to art, poststructuralist thought, photographic history and theory, innovative art criticism, contemporary Chinese art, post-conceptual practices, and modern Indian art. Each student works closely with two academic supervisors, with progress assessed through regular reviews by a research panel (comprising both supervisors and an independent evaluator). The program fosters independent research skills while supporting students in presenting their findings at academic events and publishing in peer-reviewed journals or equivalent outlets.
