The Art History Department serves as a vibrant and collaborative hub for exploring art, visual culture, and theory. Faculty expertise spans from medieval religious artworks to Soviet-era public sculptures, and from pre-Renaissance carvings to modern diasporic art. Our approach emphasizes cross-period analysis and diverse critical perspectives.
Students are invited to engage with the department's dynamic academic and social environment, which includes frequent research seminars, visiting speaker events, and signature programs like the Autumn Art Lecture Series. We champion interdisciplinary studies, with particular strengths in examining connections between visual arts and music, literature, as well as investigations into art and racial identity.
The department maintains strong partnerships with other academic units across the university, along with collaborations at regional and national museums and galleries.
