The PGCE Secondary School Direct Science: Biology program (for ages 11-16 or 11-18) equips you with both hands-on training and theoretical foundations to excel as a Biology educator. Unlike traditional teacher training routes, this School Direct pathway offers extra preparatory time in schools before the PGCE begins, along with a tailored curriculum. The program primarily concentrates on the 11-16 age bracket to achieve Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), covering the National Curriculum and associated frameworks for GCSE, AS, and A-level instruction. Most of the course emphasizes developing practical teaching skills through extensive school placements, including primary school exposure and teaching rotations across multiple secondary schools. You'll spend 25 weeks of the PGCE gaining diverse school experience. This immersive training is complemented by exploring educational theories, contemporary issues, and pedagogical developments. Partnering with numerous Greater Manchester schools, the School Direct initiative enables schools to handpick trainees, ideally preparing them for future roles within their training school network (though employment isn't guaranteed).
