The MusM Music (Ethnomusicology) program provides comprehensive graduate-level training in ethnomusicological studies. Emphasizing theoretical frameworks, methodological approaches, and contemporary disciplinary discussions, along with essential research methods and presentation formats, it effectively prepares students for PhD research or professional applications. Students can select specialized modules and dissertation/critical edition topics aligned with their academic interests and career goals. The curriculum covers diverse subjects and perspectives - including gender studies, ethnic identity, music in conflict zones, cultural revivals, performance traditions, postcolonial analysis, and ethnographic politics. Seminar formats foster close faculty-student interaction, with regular opportunities for presenting original work and receiving personalized critiques. Interactive discussions constitute a core component of most course modules. Additionally, students may opt for a practical placement, completing at least 20 days within a 12-week period at an arts organization, cultural institution, or commercial enterprise to acquire hands-on professional experience.
