The Music program builds upon the research expertise within the music department, catering to composers (working with vocals, instruments, or electronics), performers, sound artists, music scholars (specializing in any genre), as well as music education and community music professionals with focused academic interests. MMus candidates can tailor their studies by choosing one or two specializations from six available tracks: Community Music, Composition, Music Education, Musicology, Performance, and Sonic Arts. Applicants must specify their desired specialization(s) in their application.Alongside their major project, students complete a combination of required and elective courses. The MMus Program Coordinator works individually with each student to align course selections with their academic goals.This program serves three primary purposes:To create a seamless transition from undergraduate studies, both at the University of Aberdeen and elsewhere, into advanced study areas including composition, community music, musicology, music education, performance, or sonic arts - either individually or in combination;To support students in exploring and developing career pathways in academia or professional industries;To further strengthen the research culture within the Music Department.The MMus in Music also provides an opportunity for professionals who have been working for several years after their undergraduate or postgraduate studies to return to university for skill refinement as part of their ongoing professional development (available for both full-time and part-time study).
