Immunology is a rapidly evolving discipline that influences current and emerging challenges across biomedical and biological sciences. Our MSci Immunology program provides comprehensive training in understanding the elements, principles, and functions of a properly functioning immune system, including how these components work together to provide effective defense against pathogens. You'll explore how the immune system differentiates between the body's own cells and foreign invaders, adapts its responses to various infectious threats, and varies its reactions depending on infection sites like skin, gastrointestinal tract, or respiratory system. Beyond studying normal immune function, the curriculum examines cases of immune dysfunction such as allergic reactions, autoimmune disorders, and immunodeficiency diseases. The program also covers modern and innovative applications of immunological knowledge in diagnostics and treatments, including immunotherapies for cancer, vaccine development, and managing transplant rejection.
