The BSc Microbiology program focuses on examining microorganisms, with special attention given to bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoan parasites. Microbiologists play a crucial role in conducting essential research to combat global infectious diseases, recognize microbes' environmental significance, and utilize them for food manufacturing, biotech innovations, and industrial uses. Our curriculum primarily concentrates on disease-causing organisms' pathogenic characteristics. Students will explore microbial biochemistry, physiology, and genetics as well. The initial year establishes foundational knowledge, followed by specialized microbiology studies in subsequent years. During the third year, students may opt for a placement with our approved UK or international partners or organize their own approved placement through the School of Biological Sciences. Opportunities span research projects, educational positions, biotech sector roles, and science communication.
