This program is designed to equip you with the essential expertise and understanding needed to excel as a skilled sociological researcher. The curriculum covers: foundational philosophical concepts in sociology, core sociological inquiries and challenges, major sociological frameworks, critical topics within specialized sociology fields (students can choose from various focus areas), fundamentals of research methodology, quantitative analysis methods and principles, and qualitative analysis approaches and guidelines. This serves as an approved 13-point pathway for ESRC doctoral training.

Qualification Requirements

Generally a 2:1 Honours Degree (or overseas equivalent) in Sociology or a Social Science subject is required for direct master's entry. However the MSc in Sociological Research course is a specialised, and research focused course and not all undergraduate social science degrees will provide the appropriate background. Potential applicants are advised that transcripts will be checked to ensure appropriate material has been covered. When assessing your academic record we take into account your grades, your academic references, and the standing of the institution where you studied. IELTS - overall score of 7, including 7 in writing with no further component score below 6.5; TOEFL IBT 103 with 28 in writing and no further score below 25 in each section. TOEFL code for Manchester is 0757. Pearson - overall 73 with 73 in writing and no further score below 66
