The BA in French and Spanish program is designed to: Deliver thorough training in French and Spanish languages, literature, culture, history, and linguistics, equipping students with the proficiency needed to thrive in French or Spanish-speaking settings. Offer students the chance to study Catalan. French Instruction A majority of our faculty are native speakers who conduct classes primarily in French, covering both language and cultural studies. Students will engage in 3 to 6 weekly hours of French grammar and conversation sessions (available for both post-A-Level and beginner students) to achieve near-native accuracy and fluency. These sessions complement optional modules focusing on French and Francophone history, politics, literature, contemporary culture, and linguistics spanning from the Early Modern era to today. Spanish Studies In addition to Spanish language courses, students can explore diverse topics in visual arts (including cinema), regional history, linguistics, and literature. Our department's extensive expertise in Spanish and Latin American studies ensures a uniquely comprehensive and varied academic offering.
