French A majority of our instructors, over two-thirds, are native French speakers who conduct both language and most cultural courses in French. Weekly, you'll engage in 3 to 6 hours of French grammar and conversation classes (available at post A-Level or beginner levels) to achieve near-native accuracy and fluency. These sessions complement optional modules covering French and Francophone history, politics, literature, popular culture, and linguistics, spanning from the Early Modern era to today. Our enduring partnership with Manchester's Alliance Française offers year-round cultural activities, including film screenings, lectures, theater performances, concerts, exhibitions, and intensive language courses. Additionally, our collaboration with the Institut de Touraine in the Loire Valley provides Easter and Summer French language programs suitable for all proficiency levels, from absolute beginners to final-year students. External examiners frequently commend our diverse, high-quality curriculum, and two faculty members have received University Teaching Excellence Awards. Portuguese Your studies will encompass both European and Brazilian Portuguese, alongside elective topics in contemporary culture, colonialism, literature, and cinema from Brazil, Portugal, Mozambique, and Angola. Instruction comes from qualified Portuguese and Brazilian educators, ensuring your written and spoken skills develop through consistent exposure to authentic, idiomatic language.
