Students will develop essential techniques for linguistic analysis while learning to apply these methods to investigate English in both historical and contemporary contexts. The program also emphasizes valuable transferable competencies, including academic writing and presentation delivery. The University of Manchester's English Language department stands out for its exceptional range of specialized topics and theoretical perspectives, with particular expertise in phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax (covering various frameworks like lexical-functional grammar and minimalism), as well as formal semantics and pragmatics.
