The combined degree program immerses students in the diverse cultures and societies of Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, and Southeast Asia through language studies, film analysis, literature, and cultural exploration.
This interdisciplinary program can be paired with various SOAS disciplines such as Linguistics, History, Anthropology, Development Studies, Music, and Politics or International Relations. During their first year, students develop a comprehensive regional understanding to establish essential comparative insights.
Since language forms the foundation of cultural comprehension, all first-year students must select from an array of language offerings. We strongly advise continuing language skill development throughout the program. Students may opt for a year abroad to achieve cultural and linguistic proficiency in languages like Swahili, Turkish, Hebrew, Persian, Arabic, Hindi, Urdu, Sanskrit, Indonesian, or Vietnamese.
