This four-year undergraduate program is delivered collaboratively by our Department of Linguistics and English Language alongside our Department of Languages and Cultures.
The program combines rigorous academic coursework with practical experience during a year abroad, and prior Spanish knowledge isn't required as we provide an intensive beginner's course.
Our Spanish Studies program focuses on achieving full fluency. You'll explore Spanish and Mexican history, culture, politics, and society while also examining English language structure through traditional linguistic studies including vocabulary, grammar, and phonetics. In year two, core modules like English Phonetics and Spanish Language Skills are complemented by electives ranging from Advertising Language to Stylistics.
Your third year abroad is designed to enhance intercultural awareness and language proficiency. Options include studying at a partner institution or completing a work placement to apply your language skills professionally. Department staff will provide comprehensive support to prepare you for your year in Spain.
