Spanish ranks as the world's second most spoken language and holds official status in over 20 nations. Glasgow's faculty addresses diverse subjects, allowing students to collaborate with native Spanish speakers from various regions. The School of Modern Languages & Cultures provides degree programs in French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. Students can pursue French, German, Italian, or Spanish as standalone majors or combine them with other disciplines for joint degrees. Portuguese and Russian are exclusively offered as joint degree options, paired with another field of study. Optional courses include Catalan, Mandarin Chinese, Czech, and Polish, which can be integrated into degree programs. First-year students typically enroll in either Beginner courses (for those with no prior experience or only National 5/GCSE-level knowledge) or Non-Beginner courses (requiring a Higher, A-level, or equivalent qualification within the past three years).
Language program alumni enter various professions such as: media, arts institutions, education/teaching, civil service fast track programs, finance, administration, public relations
international diplomacy.
Employers highly appreciate the adaptable skills acquired through language studies. Graduating from the School of Modern Languages & Cultures provides fresh perspectives on global affairs.
