The four-year joint Honours program's Arabic component is offered by the School of Modern Languages' Department of Arabic and Persian. This curriculum covers diverse topics ranging from Islamic history to media Arabic, and from classical medieval literature to modern works. Students will engage in advanced, research-focused study of both Arabic and English, developing insights into how knowledge evolves and progresses. The program fosters independent learning, emphasizing curiosity, precision, academic integrity, and rigorous scholarship. This 48-month course culminates in a Master of Arts (Honours) degree. Like all St Andrews programs, it consists of credit-based modules requiring 480 credits total, typically 120 per academic year. The initial two years combine mandatory program-specific courses with elective options (sometimes including cross-faculty modules). The final years focus on specialized, research-driven modules that deepen program-specific knowledge. The first two years blend core requirements with selected electives (potentially from other faculties), while the latter years concentrate on advanced, tailored research modules.
