Our department boasts expert researchers and practicing professionals in translation across all disciplines, supporting projects in numerous language pairs beyond those offered in our undergraduate programs. We excel in exploring the cultural, historical, transnational, and political aspects of translation, along with practice-focused methodologies, particularly in literary and academic contexts.
We supervise research theses across all areas of Translation Studies, with special emphasis on projects aligning with our focus on the complex relationships between language, media, and identity. Current PhD clusters investigate volunteer and amateur translation (such as fansubbing) and sociological perspectives on translation in various contexts (including journalism). Additional key research areas encompass audio-visual translation, alongside gender studies, queer theory, and postcolonial approaches to translation theory and practice.
