The course offers rigorous training for PhD-level studies and professional development. We'll walk you through each research stage while building versatile skills like analytical reasoning, project coordination, effective communication, and creative problem-solving.
Methodological instruction will be specifically adapted for historical inquiry and your unique research plan. You'll collaborate to create a personalized reading list and customized assessment components leading to a substantial research output.
Learn to craft research proposals, locate pertinent sources and evidence, organize and conduct investigations, then interpret and showcase your results. The program examines major influences on historical scholarship while engaging you with ongoing theoretical and historiographical discussions.
You'll work alongside research-active faculty from the History Department. Our MRes supervisors specialize in diverse historical fields including political, social, cultural, economic, military and diplomatic history across Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and the Americas. Particular strengths include modern cultural studies, slavery research, 18th-century history, and medieval/renaissance scholarship.
