You'll develop a comprehensive overview of how public historians engage with historical narratives. The program connects you with renowned international practitioners who demonstrate how their work influences current discussions and policymaking. Additionally, you'll acquire hands-on experience in conceptualizing and implementing public history initiatives.
During your initial MA Public History semester, we'll establish core research methodologies while introducing fundamental principles of global public history, project management techniques, and digital competencies.
The second semester emphasizes audience interaction strategies. An intensive Easter study program will connect you with professionals across the North East region and further afield, providing valuable opportunities for institutional and community collaboration. You'll also refine specialized oral history techniques and presentation methods.
The culminating experience involves designing an innovative public history project with guidance from both a professional mentor and academic advisor. This capstone demonstrates your capacity for autonomous research, partnership collaboration, and successful project execution.
