Food Security aims to enhance food safety standards across the UK, EU, Africa, and Asia by combating key foodborne pathogens like Campylobacter and Salmonella. It also seeks to boost productivity by managing endemic diseases such as Avian Pathogenic Escherichia coli in the UK, Asia, and Africa, while promoting better animal welfare practices. The University of Liverpool's Institute of Infection and Global Health unites top medical, veterinary, and basic science researchers from the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. Additionally, we maintain strong partnerships with NHS professionals via the Liverpool Health Partners Academic Health Science System.
Our research adopts a multidisciplinary strategy, examining everything from pathogen survival in the environment to their behavior in food products. This work incorporates epidemiological methods, mathematical modeling, pathogen and host genomics, as well as investigations into microbial pathogenesis and immune responses. Consequently, the Food Security initiative engages researchers from every department within IGH.
