Microbiology explores microscopic organisms like bacteria, viruses, and parasites. This field examines microbial identification, transmission methods, disease interactions with hosts, and control measures. The Master of Microbiology and Infection (MBiol) is a four-year program where students complete a three-year BSc in Microbiology and Infection before advancing to a fourth year, contingent on academic achievement.
During the initial three years, you'll explore diverse topics including molecular microbiology, infectious diseases, global health, immunology, therapeutics, and genomics, with options to focus on specific areas and conduct independent research projects.
The final Master's year focuses on refining research abilities and professional skills for students pursuing advanced research careers (such as PhD studies or industry roles) or those aiming to strengthen their qualifications. Participants will collaborate with a research team on a substantial project. Additionally, students may pursue a six-week summer research internship domestically or abroad, or opt for industry placements during their final year.
