The Master of Archives and Records Management (MARM) holds accreditation from the Archives and Records Association as the premier qualification for archivists and records professionals across the UK and Ireland, offering three specialized study tracks. This program equips you with essential expertise for careers in archival and records management across diverse sectors including research institutions, corporate environments, government agencies, and academic settings.
At Liverpool, you can customize your archival studies through three distinct pathways:
Master of Archives and Records Management
Master of Archives and Records Management (international specialization)
Master of Archives and Records Management (digital specialization)
The standard MARM pathway uniquely incorporates palaeography as a fundamental element, covering English documents from 1500-1800 with optional Latin studies, alongside coursework focused on physical collection preservation.
Our curriculum prepares you to maintain the accountability and transparency essential for effective governance, whether working within organizational frameworks or serving users in cultural heritage institutions.
With a hands-on approach, you'll join the Liverpool University Centre for Archive Studies (LUCAS), the hub for our research initiatives and community engagement programs.
The MARM program follows a synchronous hybrid delivery model, blending in-person and online instruction simultaneously. This format enables both campus-based and remote students to participate in identical sessions and interact seamlessly. Certain modules integrate pre-recorded lectures with live seminars (conducted synchronously for all participants). All lecture-based classroom sessions are recorded, while online students receive supplementary tutorial support to facilitate discussion and academic progress monitoring.
Full-time duration: 12 months (MARM) / 9 months (PGDipARM)
