Grasping the intricate relationships between natural systems and human impacts is crucial for developing solutions to the growing environmental crises we face worldwide.
This Institution of Environmental Sciences-accredited program provides comprehensive knowledge about both natural environmental processes and human-caused ecological challenges. Every course module focuses on practical applications, covering topics from climate shifts to contamination and geological risks.
What sets our program apart is the exceptional diversity of faculty expertise within the School of Environmental Sciences. You'll select from a broad array of specialized courses taught by leading researchers using cutting-edge technology and methodologies. Your academic journey follows one of five thematic tracks: digital environments, ecological systems, marine sciences, human-environment interactions, or terrestrial processes.
These specialized tracks guarantee graduates develop targeted professional competencies while maintaining a comprehensive foundation in environmental science principles.
Fieldwork forms a core component throughout your studies, beginning in your first week and continuing through graduation. These hands-on experiences let you engage directly with various ecosystems while mastering professional sampling and assessment techniques. Beyond Liverpool's coastal setting, you'll explore diverse field sites including Snowdonia, Pembrokeshire, the Peak District, with optional international opportunities in Portugal.
Several programs in our School incorporate both laboratory and field components, with research conducted in urban, coastal, and alpine settings. We welcome applications from students with disabilities and will implement appropriate accommodations to ensure equal access to all program elements.
