The ACE Care program is a one-year intercalated BSc honors degree designed for medical students seeking to deepen their expertise in Acute Medicine, Critical Care (including ITU Medicine), Emergency Medicine, and Trauma Care. Through this program, students will gain comprehensive applied knowledge, clinical experience, research capabilities, and professional competencies in these interconnected fields. The curriculum combines clinical research, hands-on placements, and blended learning methods—including lectures, digital modules, and practical assessments—to provide an immersive educational experience. Students will engage in authentic evaluations such as research papers, poster presentations, and oral examinations while developing critical decision-making abilities for complex medical scenarios. The program emphasizes patient-centered care within ACE environments, covering essential topics like trauma management, anesthesia, surgery, neurology, pediatrics, and clinical imaging. Clinical placements in NHS Acute Trusts will allow students to refine their skills under supervision while demonstrating professional conduct in high-pressure settings. Progress is tracked through portfolios, guided reflections, and research projects aligned with the Liverpool curriculum’s principles of authentic assessment. This innovative program uniquely blends Emergency Care exposure with foundational clinical research opportunities. Note: In rare cases (e.g., pandemics), ACE Care students may be transferred to the MRes Clinical Sciences program if hospital-based training becomes unavailable. Who is this course for? Medical students intercalating to expand their proficiency in Acute, Critical, Emergency, and Trauma Care disciplines. Careers This program strengthens all medical careers, particularly for emergency specialties, by equipping students with advanced research experience, potential publications, and conference participation—key advantages for Foundation (PGY 1-2) and Core Training (PGY 3-5) applications.
