Proficiency in French provides access to vibrant and rapidly evolving regions beyond Europe, such as North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, and certain areas of the Caribbean, the Indian Ocean, and the Pacific. Command of this language grants entry to cultural treasures including renowned literature and films, while also enabling participation in significant social, cultural, historical, and linguistic discussions.
At Liverpool, French is available for study both at A level and as a beginner's language, requiring no prior qualifications. Our dynamic curriculum aims to both reinforce and expand your French knowledge, with language skill refinement being central to our degree programs. We also prioritize cultivating professional French competencies in our students.
Our degrees require deep intellectual exploration across diverse French studies disciplines. You'll examine French language and culture both within France and internationally, exploring multiple dimensions including social, historical, visual, literary, cinematic, and linguistic perspectives.
Every student will complete a year abroad in a French-speaking nation, either as a language assistant in a school, as a university exchange student, or through a work placement. For those combining French with another language minor, the year will be divided between a French-speaking country and another nation.
