The Leicester Cancer Research Centre boasts state-of-the-art research facilities and maintains strong collaborations with the NHS. Doctoral candidates undertake an original research project with support from their academic supervisors. Typically, full-time students complete their research within 3.0-3.5 years, while part-time students have 6.0-6.5 years. An additional year (or remaining portion) is available for full-time students to finalize their thesis, with part-time students receiving two extra years. The dissertation must not surpass 50,000 words, demonstrate novel findings, and include publishable research. Candidates must successfully defend their work in an oral examination (viva voce) to earn their degree.

Qualification Requirements
Students must hold a UK undergraduate (Bachelor's) degree with at least First-Class or Upper Second-Class honours or an equivalent qualification from a recognised overseas institution. All applications are considered on a case-by-case basis with professional experience also given consideration even if academic grades are not quite achieved. IELTS (International English Language Testing Systems) - Academic Version minimum overall score 6.5 with minimum component score 5.5, TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) - Internet-based test minimum overall score 90 with minimum component score 20.
