The Doctor of Medicine (MD) program is designed for students who have earned an undergraduate Bachelor's degree with substantial science coursework. The curriculum begins with one year of foundational science studies in Newcastle, followed by a second year of basic sciences training at SGU's True Blue campus in Grenada. Students meeting all requirements after this second year will receive a Bachelor of Medical Sciences (BMedSci) degree from Northumbria University. Participants may then choose to undertake clinical rotations lasting up to two years in either the US or UK, depending on visa regulations. The MD degree is awarded upon program completion.
This international medical pathway between SGU and NU cultivates medical knowledge, clinical expertise, and research capabilities while exposing students to diverse healthcare systems. This global approach prepares graduates to practice medicine in any specialty worldwide. The Newcastle-based programs mirror Grenada's curriculum while offering exposure to alternative healthcare environments.
With over four decades of excellence in medical education, St. George's University has trained more than 16,000 physicians from 140+ countries, making significant contributions to the global healthcare community.
SGU's MD program provides international career opportunities, holding accreditation from multiple regulatory bodies. The program's accreditation standards are recognized as equivalent to those of the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, which accredits medical schools throughout the United States and Canada.
