Leicester's Geography program stands out for its world-class research and education. Both faculty and students actively contribute to our vibrant research environment, with global field courses that bring research-driven learning to life. PhD candidates undertake an independent research project mentored by a supervisory team, typically spanning 3.0-3.5 years full-time or 6.0-6.5 years part-time. An additional year (full-time) or seventh year (part-time) can be used for thesis preparation. The dissertation, capped at 80,000 words, must offer novel insights and include publishable work. Final degree conferral requires successful defense of the thesis in an oral examination.
