The Earth Sciences department at UCL conducts cutting-edge research on terrestrial and planetary processes. We maintain robust connections with resource and hazard risk sectors, with the majority of our graduates securing positions in academia or geoscience-related fields. Our research encompasses planetary dynamics, material composition and properties, surface and subsurface processes (both current and historical), environmental and biological evolution, along with applied geosciences covering natural hazards, pollution, and resources. Research degree candidates will focus on one or more of these interdisciplinary areas. This program is ideal for individuals looking to advance their knowledge and career through independent research, whether aspiring to academic roles or industrial research leadership. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are particularly valuable for success in this field.
