Leicester's Geography program stands out for its world-class research and education. Both faculty and students actively contribute to our vibrant research environment, with global field courses that bring research-driven learning to life. PhD candidates undertake an independent research project mentored by a dedicated supervision team. Typically, full-time students complete their research within 3.0-3.5 years, while part-time students have 6.0-6.5 years. An additional year (full-time) or remaining time (part-time) may be used for thesis preparation. The final dissertation, capped at 50,000 words, must offer novel insights and include publishable work. Candidates must successfully defend their thesis in an oral examination to earn their degree.
