Petroleum Geosciences specializes in core research on earth surface dynamics and sedimentary basins, with direct applications to petroleum exploration. Numerous team members bring industry expertise from the petroleum sector and maintain active partnerships with energy companies on projects related to basin evolution, 3D seismic analysis, and reservoir characterization. Our work emphasizes investigations into landscape and seascape formation mechanisms, advanced stratigraphic techniques, basin tectonics, sedimentology of both clastic and carbonate systems, and paleoenvironmental shifts. We've pioneered innovative digital outcrop methodologies for reservoir simulation. The research group operates cutting-edge equipment for digital outcrop acquisition (including terrestrial LIDAR systems) and sophisticated 3D seismic interpretation tools. Our capabilities extend to computational modeling through dedicated workstations and access to the University's high-performance computing infrastructure.
