Doctoral candidates undertake an independent research initiative supervised by an academic team. The maximum enrollment duration before thesis submission is 4 years for full-time students or 7 years for part-time students. The active research phase (encompassing experiments, lab work, fieldwork, and data gathering) typically spans 3-3.5 years full-time or 6-6.5 years part-time. Following active research, students may apply for a writing-up period lasting up to one year. The combined research and writing phases must not surpass the maximum enrollment period. Theses generally should not exceed 80,000 words and must present original scholarly contributions with publishable-quality work. Final degree conferral requires successful defense of the thesis in an oral examination.
