Social media movements such as #HeForShe demonstrate how media and communication are deeply connected to social inclusion, public engagement, and the resources needed to tackle institutional inequalities. Today, it's essential to not just analyze media's role in perpetuating social disparities but also to create actionable media strategies that drive meaningful change. The MA in Media, Gender, and Social Justice offers an in-depth exploration of theories, methods, and practical applications of media in combating inequality and advancing social justice. As the only UK program of its kind, it combines interdisciplinary study with critical analysis and hands-on approaches to media, gender, and justice. Students will analyze how media and digital technologies influence global inequalities across different contexts and institutions. The program explores media's power in shaping perceptions of gender and other identity-based disparities while providing research-based tools for addressing them. Through real-world case studies and direct engagement with activists and organizations, students learn to develop interventions that challenge systemic inequities.
