Pursuing your PhD with us means joining a professional research setting where you'll utilize top-tier UK facilities to realize your project while collaborating with leading experts in their fields. Our diverse research team spans multiple disciplines in volcanology, including seismic studies, crustal deformation analysis, geochemical and petrological investigations, and gas emission monitoring. The Volcanology group's primary objective is integrating these research areas to comprehend magma formation, development, and eruption mechanisms. Our seismic research specializes in detecting and differentiating volcanic tremors, linking them to specific volcanic activities like magma movement, pressure buildup, and lava extrusion. Through petrological and geochemical analysis, we trace magma's journey, revealing eruption triggers and formation processes. Deformation monitoring enables us to track eruptions and subsurface magma shifts from afar, while gas emission studies measure discharge rates during both passive and active volcanic degassing phases.
