Our research focuses on tackling pressing clinical issues in palliative care, primarily enhancing pain management for community-based patients and assessing treatment choices and medical approaches in end-of-life scenarios. Collaborating closely with St Gemma's Hospice in Leeds, our efforts have contributed to their distinction as the world's first University Hospice. Launched in 2011 under Professor Mike Bennett's guidance as St Gemma's Professor of Palliative Medicine, this initiative has integrated research nurses at both St Gemma's and Wheatfields Hospices to facilitate patient enrollment and clinical study coordination. Additionally, we partner with Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust to bolster research participation across Leeds' healthcare facilities.
