You will undertake a specialized research program in a specific field, guided by a principal supervisor and potentially additional co-supervisors. As the most globally recognized research qualification, a PhD represents the predominant research degree pursued at Leeds. Tribology focuses on the study of interacting surfaces in motion, examining phenomena like friction, wear, and lubrication. Numerous devices and systems face limitations due to surface and interface challenges. Our objective is to enhance comprehension of surface interactions to minimize friction and wear, subsequently creating both mechanistic and computational tribology models. Our research establishes the foundation for innovating advanced tribological systems with reduced friction and enhanced durability, including applications in lubricants, protective coatings, mechanical components, and medical equipment.
