Our Doctor of Philosophy program serves as the primary research-focused degree. To earn a PhD, candidates must submit a substantial thesis (approximately 300 pages or 100,000 words) that demonstrates original research contributions. Examiners evaluate whether the work presents novel discoveries, interpretations, and communications of knowledge that meet publication standards in reputable international and national peer-reviewed journals. This level of achievement typically requires three to four years of dedicated full-time study (or five to seven years for part-time or split-site arrangements).
Our cross-institute research collective unites scholars from diverse scientific fields to explore planetary science. Drawing expertise from multiple institutes including Applied Geoscience, Geophysics and Tectonics, Earth Surface Science, and Climate and Atmospheric Science, our team possesses broad research capabilities. Our investigations span Planetary Volcanic Systems and Geomorphology (examining surface and subsurface processes), Planetary Magnetism, Martian Water Systems, Atmospheric Studies of Planets, and Meteorite Analysis for understanding Planetary Formation and Development.
