Cellular membranes and their internal compartments perform vital functions across biological systems, including nutrient absorption, environmental sensing, and cellular communication. Representing over 20% of human genes, membrane proteins are implicated in numerous diseases and are targeted by most modern medications. The Integrative Membrane Biology group investigates these proteins' structures and functions, exploring their impact on health and treatment. Our collaborative, multidisciplinary approach enables examination of membrane proteins at various scales, from atomic to organismal. This work advances fundamental biological knowledge while contributing to drug development, biosensor creation, agricultural improvements, and microbial energy solutions.
