Our research centers on investigating disease mechanisms and their effects on patients' lives through innovative diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.
In our Biomedicine PhD, MD, and MPhil programs, we concentrate on: examining disease pathways, analyzing how illnesses affect quality of life
implementing advanced diagnostic methods, applying novel treatment approaches
creating innovative therapies
Students pursuing MPhil, MD, or PhD degrees in Biomedicine will enroll with a University research institute.
You'll benefit from an organized supervision and training program through our Faculty of Medical Sciences Graduate School.
Our research encompasses these key areas, with supervision available for MPhil, PhD, and MD candidates:
Applied immunobiology (including organ and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation)
Newcastle operates one of the world's most extensive organ transplant initiatives. This clinical excellence has evolved alongside our immunobiology and transplantation research team. Current investigations include:
immune system responses in autoimmune disorders, cancer treatments, transplant rejection processes.
Additional research explores the balance between inflammatory and anti-inflammatory reactions through multiple biological pathways, and how these can be modified for treatment. Another focus area involves studying primary immunodeficiency conditions.
