Research-based Master's degrees are valuable for various professions involving research components that don't necessarily demand a PhD (such as in business sectors). These programs also provide an opportunity to explore PhD-level study if you're uncertain about committing to a full doctoral program initially. A Master's degree can be particularly beneficial for aspiring PhD students whose current academic credentials may not meet doctoral program requirements.

The Dental Public Health and Health Services research team specializes in studies aimed at enhancing and safeguarding oral health across communities, evaluating the efficiency and fairness of dental care services, and examining oral health issues both domestically and internationally. Our diverse team of experts employs both quantitative and qualitative research methods. Notable projects include the FiCTION clinical trial conducted across UK primary dental care facilities, a collaborative effort involving multiple dental schools under the leadership of Professors Gail Douglas (Leeds), Janet Clarkson, Nicola Innes (Dundee), and Anne Maguire (Newcastle). This NIHR-funded study compared three treatment approaches for childhood dental caries in high-risk populations, with findings expected to shape future healthcare policies. The group also partners with Public Health England (PHE) on research initiatives and policy recommendations.
