Exploration Robotics focuses on deploying mobile robots into natural or man-made environments that are inaccessible or undesirable for humans, aiming to collect crucial sensory information and occasionally execute physical operations. This field has transformative potential across various domains such as: Defense and Security, Search and Rescue missions, Archaeological studies, Environmental Monitoring, Nuclear facility decommissioning, Space Exploration, and the Oil and Gas sector. As a subset of Field Robotics, Exploration Robotics serves as an umbrella term encompassing most real-world mobile robot applications not classified under Service Robotics or Infrastructure Robotics. While certain Infrastructure Robotics applications may overlap with Exploration Robotics, the former often involves more repetitive tasks than typically seen in exploration scenarios. Unlike Service Robots, Exploration Robots generally navigate less predictable and more physically demanding environments.
