Research under this theme examines how to revolutionize transportation systems in Global South cities to achieve social sustainability, economic efficiency, and environmental friendliness. TRIGS facilitates activities that enhance transport research capabilities in the Global South, ranging from networking and idea generation to evidence compilation for better analysis and developing funding proposals. This interdisciplinary theme recognizes mobility and accessibility as fundamental to achieving Sustainable Development Goals in developing economies. Frequently, transportation's importance is neglected in urban planning and policies addressing housing, education, healthcare, and social welfare. Moreover, new transport systems in the Global South often fail to adequately consider the mobility requirements and economic realities of their most disadvantaged populations or the ethical obligation to safeguard society's most vulnerable members.
