The MA by Research (MAR) program in the School of Philosophy, Religion and History of Science enables students to conduct independent research at the Masters level. This often serves as an ideal foundation for pursuing a PhD. At Leeds, philosophy delves into core questions about existence, human relationships, and our connection to the world. Our academic work covers diverse areas including metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, political philosophy, and specialized branches like philosophy of logic, language, mind, action, science, and religion. With approximately 25 faculty members alongside postdoctoral scholars and graduate researchers, we foster a dynamic and cooperative environment. Our team produces cutting-edge research within specialized domains while leveraging interdisciplinary connections. Through frequent seminars and research gatherings—often coordinated by our primary research groups—we exchange and refine ideas. This collaborative approach helps maintain globally recognized research excellence.
