East Asian Studies at Leeds originated in 1963 under Professor Owen Lattimore, a distinguished scholar of China and Inner Asia. We've since grown into one of Britain's largest hubs for East Asian research and education, encompassing China, Japan, Korea, Thailand, and the broader Asia-Pacific region. Our recent establishment of the Centre for New Chinese Writing has positioned us as a globally significant institution for studying contemporary Chinese literature and its Western translation and reception.
