You'll examine artistic practices and interpretations across diverse intersecting cultures and historical eras. In today's image-driven world, we view art history as a vibrant, essential lens for comprehending our collective past and addressing contemporary challenges.
Focusing on how art interacts with broader social forces, this course critically examines issues of power, politics, and society. It demonstrates how art historical knowledge can reveal the underlying structures influencing our culture - including race, environmental relationships, class, gender, and sexuality. We prepare students to be global citizens: specialists in their disciplines and socially conscious individuals possessing adaptable, relevant skills.
