Forensic genetics focuses on creating, analyzing, and assessing DNA profiles to identify biological samples and determine relationships between individuals. The Forensic Genetics Group at the University of Central Lancashire operates state-of-the-art laboratories equipped with cutting-edge technology to conduct advanced research and establish collaborations with global entities like the International Committee of the Red Cross, international research centers, and forensic service providers. Beyond academic research, we offer expert consultancy to organizations such as the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Our studies on DNA extraction, durability, and evidence assessment, combined with practical casework, have contributed to the development of internationally recognized guidelines by the ICRC, which are shared with governments worldwide involved in human remains identification. We also organize specialized genetics training programs for international professionals, sharing both research insights and practical casework experiences.
