During your doctoral studies, you'll develop an original research project of up to 100,000 words, written in either English or German. Current and past research themes span German literature and mathematics from the 19th century onward, as well as the literary theme of wandering from Romanticism through the 1900s.

The Modern Languages Department provides guidance from leading scholars across diverse fields to support your research journey. Regular progress assessments ensure your thesis meets academic standards. Throughout your studies, you'll participate in seminars, workshops, and skill development programs, often connected to the Centre for Modern European Literature.
