Our PhD program is designed to meet the aspirations of students pursuing academic careers or other professional paths, as well as those driven by pure intellectual curiosity. We welcome applications from both recent graduates and experienced professionals who now have the opportunity to explore academic passions, possibly after years in the workforce.
Our faculty provides guidance across diverse areas of German studies, encompassing: baroque literature, literary works from the 18th to 21st centuries (with emphasis on novels), Anglo-German cultural exchanges, philosophical approaches to German literature, gender studies and women's literature, 20th-century German history, intellectual history, German cinema, and memory studies. We particularly encourage applicants interested in interdisciplinary research projects.
