The PhD in Language and Communication is a cross-disciplinary program spanning Education, Language and Linguistic Science, Psychology, and Sociology. It examines real-world language use and the cognitive mechanisms behind it. Our research employs extensive data analysis to explore communication patterns—whether verbal, sequential, or gestural—in daily interactions, professional environments, educational contexts, and digital exchanges.
This interdisciplinary PhD program is jointly administered by four departments: Education, Language and Linguistic Science, Psychology, and Sociology. Faculty members are leading specialists in language and communication who collaborate to deliver the program. Each student benefits from dual supervision across departments and engages with both academic communities.
Program faculty hold global recognition for pioneering research and interdisciplinary collaboration. Our methodologies incorporate diverse linguistic perspectives, including cognitive, ethnographic, interactional, and dynamic/emergent frameworks. Some researchers focus on qualitative techniques (particularly conversation analysis), while others specialize in experimental and quantitative methods.
