Our research focuses on ethnobiological knowledge systems and diverse environmental knowledge frameworks, supported by experts from the Centre for Biocultural Diversity.
Overview
Our studies examine community adaptations to deforestation, climate shifts, sustainable resource use, medicinal plant applications, effects of migration and displacement, and the intersection of conservation efforts with development initiatives. The Centre houses an Ethnobiology Lab and Ethnobotanical Garden, maintaining strong partnerships with institutions like the Royal Botanic Gardens (Kew) and the Eden Project.
PhD Program
The doctoral program spans three years full-time or five years part-time. Candidates develop a thesis of up to 100,000 words under expert faculty guidance, with structured progress evaluations throughout.
The initial year incorporates coursework, particularly methodological training for those requiring it. Subsequent years are dedicated to field or archival research and thesis composition. While students primarily work with one supervisor, a three-member committee (including the principal advisor) provides comprehensive oversight.
