The MA Journalism and Media Communications with Placement Year is a two-year program featuring a 36-week full-time work placement. While the curriculum mirrors the one-year MA, this version includes an extended 30+ week placement, with dissertation work completed in the second year. Placements provide crucial industry experience while deepening your media theory knowledge. Past students have secured roles ranging from communications at London development agencies to social media management in Hertfordshire. Note: First-year academic success is required to proceed to the placement phase.
You'll leverage our strong media industry connections throughout the program, including PRCA membership and BSME educational affiliation. Our guest speaker series brings top professionals like Marie Claire's editor, BBC investigative journalists, and media agency heads to share insights. Additionally, we host intimate afternoon tea sessions with speakers twice per term. Our dedicated support helps students secure prestigious placements, with alumni landing positions at the BBC, Sunday Times, and leading PR firms.
